Wassup!! I’m so very happy to announce that I have finally arrived in Tokyo!! Woot woot. I’ve been a little too lazy to blog about it (until now), but here we are!
The plane ride over was, in all honestly… hellish. I made the huge mistake of not purchasing seat specification. That being said, I was sandwiched between two dudes for twelve freakin’ hours. Not fun. I cried so hard because the sensory hell combined with anxiety from other things really got to me. I’m happy to say that I am finally in a much better place.
Speaking of mistakes, I also initially didn’t purchase cellular or an esim. I had such a hard time navigating my surroundings until my dad stepped up and helped me set up cellular. This gave me a lot of anxiety, but I’m really happy we got it all figured out.
To be honest, I’m too lazy to cover every single thing I’ve done up until this point. However, we can just start from today (aka the day I gained my independence… cellular :P).
After a lengthy and exciting cultural exchange with local Japanese students, I visited a super cute little bird “cafe”! Quoted because it wasn’t as much of a cafe as it was a glorified pet store (and that is not a bad thing whatsoever!!). Like most other Japanese cafes, it was a cute little place to interact with the birds.
Upon entering, I'd immediately noticed the owls! Unfortunately, I was not allowed to touch them, but they were so fun to look at. They were so much tinier than expected and so still that I initially couldn’t even tell that they were actual owls. I assumed that they were plush dolls.
After viewing the owls, I stepped into the enclosure. I was so happy to see how much space and enrichment the birds had. They were so friendly and interactive! Normally, in these environments, the birds are only interested in interacting with you for food. However, these birds loved to land on me and cuddle.
I interacted with various types of parrots ranging from conures to African greys to macaws! They even had some birds resembling the shoebills you’d always see in memes; one of which even landed on my head! They were all super sweet except for one larger green parrot that tried to bite me–ouch! One of the clerks had to run over and shoo it off of me!
I ended up befriending this just absolutely ADORABLE blue macaw! It was such a sweetheart. It just sat next to me and let me scratch its head. I felt a bit sorry for it since it seemed to be missing some feathers (likely from plucking) and sitting alone. It was such a gentle soul. I don’t think I could ever own a macaw, but if I could, I would’ve definitely chosen this sweet little baby.
Aside from the macaw, I also spent time with some adorable little conures and African greys! I remember that, when I scratched one African greys, another came over to me since it also wanted some. It was such an adorable moment!
Overall, I had so much fun here!! Until the next day. :)
